Your Sacred Companion

Imagine this:

It’s your first day on Earth (The School of Life.)

The air around you is fresh and new, and as you take your first independent breath, something profound happens. In that precious moment, as the umbilical cord is cut and you are no longer tethered to the safety of the womb—
you are now your own being!

It is here, between that first breath and the first beat of life on your own, that a sacred meeting occurs:
a convergence of Spirit and Soul, of heaven and earth.

In the sky above, the stars and planets align in a cosmic dance, and in that moment, the heavens take a snapshot.

This is the moment that assigns you your Rising Sign, representing your body and your physical self.

That moment is a core memory in your being.

Unlike the Sun, which stays in a zodiac sign for a full month (or the various celestial bodies that can take years to rotate through the zodiac) your rising sign is different; it changes every two hours, making it incredibly specific to you.

This is the moment when everything began for you,
and it is as if a sacred companion was waiting for you—a planetary “ruler” of your chart.

Astrologers believed (for thousands of years) that the planet that ruled
the sign in the first house (known as “The Helm”) at the moment of your birth
was seen as the “Helmsman” or the captain of the ship, that would help you stir your vessel (body) toward your sacred destination.

I prefer to call the chart ruler:

Your Sacred Companion.

Another way of looking at it is this: the ruler of your RISING sign will help you RISE.

You just have to embody the traits of this sign. You just have to consider honoring this sacred partnership/mentorship.

Below you will find ample ways of doing that, to help you do your work sustainably.

An Example

In the story ‘The Island of Spirit and Soul’ a child who had the sign of Taurus in the first house at the moment of her birth (Taurus Rising) would have Venus as her Sacred Companion (because Venus is the planet that rules Taurus.)

Therefore her parents would expose her to those Venusian aspects of life (from the simple observation of nature, to the creation of beauty in all forms, to the cultivation of harmony & interdependence in her relationships).

Her parents never wanted her to feel alone in the world; on the contrary, they were invested in her feeling a sense of existential comfort by having a Sacred Companion. Anytime the child felt overwhelmed by the world (or by her busy mind) she would be encouraged to return to Venus (to the love, beauty, and harmony available to her in any given moment.)
She knew to return to Venus’ Nest for sustenance.

In this way, the child was being trained to always return to her body, through the multi-sensory experiences of being alive. That’s how she embodied her Taurus Rising & worked with Venus as her guide.

Your Turn

Now is your turn to go explore the ways in which you can embody your Rising Sign and learn from your mentor/Sacred Companion/Homeroom teacher in The School of Life.

I wish you beauty & harmony as you do that.

Have fun!
